The International Low Carbon City, Neighbourhood, Building Academic Alliance (IAA-LCCNB) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization without any commercial objectives. The aim of the IAA-LCCNB alliance is to support fundamental and applied research related to low carbon cities, low carbon neighbourhood, low carbon buildings for the purpose of promoting a sustainable society and liveable cities through collaboration and cooperation among all members of the Alliance.
The Alliance was officially established in 2017 in Xi’an with founding members from Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology (China), University of Southampton (UK), Tsinghua University (China), University College London (UK), and Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Norway). The current members also include University of Science and Technology of China, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (Germany), Politecnico di Milano (Italy), and Université Paris-Est Créteil (France). Professor Jiaping Liu from Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology and Professor AbuBakr Bahaj from University of Southampton were elected as the Chairman and Vice-chairman of the Executive Committee, who jointly proposed the Framework and Charter of the Alliance.
In April 2017, the Alliance hosted the first conference in series, namely Low Carbon City, Neighbourhood, and Building under the Belt and Road Initiative. The conference was held in Xi’an, China and attended by over 200 international researchers and students.
